The Old Courthouse
St. Louis, Missouri

National Park Service
87,000 Square Feet

The ninteenth-century Greek revival courthouse sits at one end of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial grounds, which is undergoing a major transformation under the CityArchRiver (CAR) 2015 project. Trivers Associates was selected to improve the visitor experience by renovating the exhibit spaces, replacing building systems, and bring those spaces to compliance with current accessibility and life-safety standards.

Exterior pedestrian ramps will replace a single outdoor lift and allow all visitors to enter through both iconic porticos. Inside, the bookstore and multi-purpose room will be relocated in areas unencumbered by steps. 6,710 square feet of galleries will be prepared for state-of-the-art exhibits. New elevators will bring the visitors up to the second floor, where they can view the exhibits in the rotunda and experience the renovated historic east courtroom.
